Dyne (symbol "dyn", from Greek δύναμις "dynamis" meaning power, force) is the CGS unit of force. One dyne is the force that accelerates a mass of one gram at the rate of one centimeter per second per second. One dyne is equal to exactly 10^-5 newton, or about 2.248 x 10^-6 pound of force (lbf) in the traditional English system.
